We love nothing more than from a happy bride, so getting thank you notes is a little like Christmas around here! We got this little note from an adorable bride who was so much fun to work with and has a pretty great husband by her side too! What a lucky lady!

"Hello!
I hope that you are well! Just wanted to say thank you so much for all that you did. The flowers were just gorgeous and I continue to get compliments on them! I can't put into words how amazing the flowers and centerpieces were. We just loved them. They were so unique and beautiful!!! I am working on a great review to put on the knot, along with sending you a copy, just in case you want to use it. We are going through all the pictures and there were quite a few showing off the awesome flowers, so when we get our pictures back, I will definitely send you some, just in case you would like to use any of them on your site to show your beautiful flowers also. And you can at least see them in all their wedding glory!!! I even received a compliment from the person at the Conservatory on the boutonnieres and they had done hundreds of weddings. Alizarin Crimson or Venetian Red?

Oscar Wilde was once quoted saying, “Mere color, unspoiled by meaning, and unallied with definite form, can speak to the soul in a thousand different ways.” It is true that colors and our relationships with colors have a dramatic impact on how we feel. Whether it’s looking at beautiful artwork, picking out our clothes for the day or decorating a new apartment, colors can say a lot to someone without saying anything at all. Weddings are no exception--especially when this is the most important day to show all of your friends and family who you are as a couple.

My sister is getting married in a few months and I am intrigued by the fact that whenever I tell someone she is engaged, one of their first questions is, “what are her colors?” Well let me tell you, we are about to drown in fuchsia and turquoise. However, coming to that decision was one of the first steps and possibly hardest parts of planning her wedding. She really wanted the right ‘feel’ for her day. Colors on their own have meaning. Whether it’s purple meaning royalty or wealth, or green, which is the color of nature and life, all colors mean something and people have a reactions to the color choices picked for weddings. For example bright colors can make a couple seem energetic and vibrant, while earth tones can signify calmness, and anything yellow to me just feels happy. Whether its romance or whimsy this blog helps you put the feel of your wedding to the perfect colors. Another genius website I came across was www.dessy.com/PANTONE. In 2010 The Dessy Group partnered with PANTONE to allow brides (and grooms) to coordinate your colors with Pantone Color Swatches that you can leave with your bridesmaids, florist, wedding planner & more. That way everyone can be on the same page with the exact color and feel you are looking for. No matter what, when deciding on a color scheme don’t be afraid to think outside of the box. Let color combination's surprise you, and go with what you like and makes you feel good. Because, after all, who said red and pink together aren’t anything but beautiful?

Going completely green at your wedding can be pretty tough. Doable, but tough. However, there are small manageable things you can do here and there that can really make a difference. Here are two great examples.

Just recently I found out this great website called called foryourparty.com! It offers tons of little items to make any wedding super special. Castellano Wedding!

Lucky You Productions (Floral and Decor Division) was proud to take part in making Tricia and Mike Castellano's wedding day an unforgettable event! Designed by Amanda Hill, Director of Floral and Decor at Lucky You, the bridesmaid's bouquets we made up of tulips, dendrobium orchids, spider mums, button pomps and hydrangea with black ribbon loops within the arrangement as an accent. The bride's bouquet was a showstopper with beautiful white Gerber daises, dendrobium orchids, spider mums and button pomps. The ceremony site was beautifully decorated inside and out. The door decorations were made of roses, bells of Ireland, Kermit pumps and wax flower. The aisle was adorned with pomanders made of button pomps, spider mums and chrysanthemums. Lastly, the cake was decorated with spider mums and white gerber daises. A special thanks to L'Photographie for the most amazing pictures!

Trend Alert: Feather Frenzy!

Feathers are a fun addition to any chic brides wedding day. Celebrities have been incorporating feathers into their fashion looks and even their bridal looks (think Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City 2). This has sparked a huge trend that has influenced weddings. They can be incorporated through design elements to make your big day one of a kind. With so many different types and colors to choose from, feathers can be selected to go with a variety of elements in your wedding. You can incorporate them into your wedding attire, decorations, cake, and bouquet. As far as bridal attire goes, feathers add a texture that has been part of designer’s inspirations this year on the runway. It can be seen all throughout a brides wedding day look from the dress to the headpiece to the shoes. Maybe you are not ready to hop on the feathered dress train just quite yet, but you can still use them to add flair to other facets the wedding. Feathers can give off a romantic and whimsical vibe while still being modern and trendy. A huge benefit of the feather trend is they are relatively cost effective. Adding them to a price conscious bridal bouquet can make it appear more full and glamorous. The possibilities are limitless to what you can accomplish with this up and coming trend! Unique Wedding Guest Books

Guest sign-in books are staples at weddings, but they can also be an after thought for many brides. Once the wedding is over, the book goes on the newly weds' bookcase or shoved in a closet, only to be broken out every few years. In recent weddings, we've seen how sign-in books are not only a creative way to get your guest involved, but also show your personal style. Here are a few ideas.

1. Create a poster using your engagement photos - Not only is this a wonderful presentation, but a great way to create a piece of art to hang on your walls. There are many options for creating wall art. You can have your invitation designer or photographer create a poster for you. Or check out Etsy.com. Etsy can give brides different options for designing a fun and unique poster.

2. "Old" Photo Album - In your formal invitation, request that your guests bring a favorite photo of you and them. When your guests arrive they can paste their photos in your book next to their signature. Its a great way to get your guest involved and for you to get a new "old" photo album.

3. Photo Booth Album - Similar to the "old" photo album, but a photo booth picture captures your wedding day. If you are already planning on having a photo booth, ask your guest to leave one of their photo booth pictures with you (most photo booths print out three different pictures at a time). Provide scissors and glue sticks next to the book. You will end up with a book filled with memories of your guest enjoying your wedding.

4. Memory Book - Instead of just having your guest sign their name. Put out colorful note cards for them to write down their favorite memory of the bride and/or groom. At the end of the wedding, you will be able to look back at all the fun times you and your guest had together. And possible a few you forgot!

5. Wedding Tree - Along the same idea as a poster, your guest "leaf " their finger print and sign their name. You can have a local artist create a leafless tree for you, or find a poster already made on Etsy. Another great website is Istockphotos.com. They have thousands of options from artist all over the world. Buy the photo you like, and take it to your local Kinkos to enlarge it to a poster size.

6. Create your own! Incorporate whatever interest or hobbies you have. If you and your groom met at a baseball game, set out a personalized jersey from your favorite team and have your guest sign it.

Or maybe you both love to cook, have your guest sign a platter. You end up with a fun platter that you can use everyday or for your anniversaries.

No matter what idea choose, your guest will appreciate the personal touch that celebrates your unique style.

A Beautiful Southern Illinois Wedding

We love working with brides as sweet as Rachel. We've known her for years working with Grand Center Inc. helping with events such as First Night and Dancing in the Street. She is a down to Earth type of girl who is the sweetest (and not to mention gorgeous!) girl we could ever work with. When we were discussing her wedding at her hometown of Anna, Illinois, the ideas started jumping and I could barely keep up with the notes. Lucky You designed the florals and coordinated her wedding. Below are some highlights of her spectacular day!

Rachel's elementary school was transformed into an adorable bed and breakfast (how cool is that!) and the wedding party and plenty of guests flooded this B&B the weekend of the wedding. She and her girls got ready and it provided a perfect backdrop for some unique photos.

The ceremony couldn't have been more perfect. The church was filled to the rafters with close family and friends from near and far. The bride's brother is a priest at the church, so it was a no-brainer that he would officiate his little sister's wedding. It was easy to say that the tears were flowing non-stop. Guests were greated walking out of the ceremony as well as a welcome at the reception to a fabulous bagpiper! She was spot on with perfect details.

The reception was held on her parent's rural home backyard. With rolling hills and the most amazing view you can imagine, every guest was oohing and ahing at the sights.

And now folks, the piece d'resistance: A drum playing bride! When I saw the crowd gathering, I couldn't help but have my curiosity peak and this is what I saw!

Congratulations again to Mr. and Mrs. Kell! A beautiful couple, both inside and out. Cheers to a lifetime of happiness!

Bridesmaid Etiquette

When it comes to your bridesmaids, you don't want to push any buttons, but you still want to feel the support. Here's a few tips and tricks from Wedding Magazine UK and us here at Lucky You to follow by.

Who's Who?
The role of the chief bridesmaid is usually filled by a sister or closest friend and of all your attendants, she'll be trusted with the most responsibility. She'll also be the one in charge of planning the showers and bachelorette party as well as be your right hand when picking out a dress, doing hair trials, etc. (LY note: Regard all the other bridesmaids in matters that they can assist with. Many times, bridesmaids feel left out when the MOH is singled out with everything and may feel resentful close to the wedding if they're too out of the loop.)

Size Matters
The general rule of thumb is the bigger the wedding, the more bridesmaids, so it's best to think about this before you ask too many of your friends or family members to fill these roles. Another factor that will affect how many bridesmaids you have is your budget, as you'll be expected to pay for all their accessories, flowers and according to all customs other than American, their dress. (LY note: Please don't make your friends buy a $300.00 plus dress that they'll never be able to wear again. Remember, they are your friends! Be nice!)

Duty Calls
It's the maid of honor's job to be your main source of support in the run up to the wedding. This could mean sitting up all night making favors or talking you down when the nerves kick in, but one duty almost always falls on her shoulders is the parties. Send her a list of who you'd like to invite, tell her your ideas and cross your fingers that she doesn't ignore them in favor of a male stripper!

On The Day
Even if you're the most independent woman in the world, you'll be glad of your bridesmaids' help on the morning of the wedding. You're bound to be full of butterflies so it's their job to make sure you eat breakfast and are done up properly in your dress. It's a good idea to give them an emergency kit with a mirror, painkillers, tissues, hairspray, lipstick and breath mints. Also give someone all the vendor contact information and your cell phone. That way, if the caterer's van breaks down, she can handle the call and keep the stress off of you. (LY note: This is a great reason to hire a Day of Coordinator! If you can't afford for assistance during the planning process (or are a really hands on bride) a "DOC" is a great present to yourself. They handle all the vendors, make sure everything is set-up and keep the stress off of the wedding party and the family. Do you really want your parents to pay for everything and work that day too?)

Party Time!
Your maids don't have to be glued to your side all night, but if there are specific jobs you want them to take responsibility for, such as helping you with your dress in the bathroom, you should let them know in advance. And once their duties are done, theyr'e free to do what they do best - party! After all, if they're having fun on the dance floor, it's more likely your other guests will join in too.

And Finally...
This may sound obvious but in the run up to your wedding, it's very easy to be come a little (dare we say it?) self-involved. It's important to acknowledge the help of your nearest and dearests, so as well as giving each of your bridesmaids a gift on the day as a gesture of your appreciation, remember to thank them face to face. After all, you want them to still be friends after the wedding too! (LY note: Don't forget the little people. Thank everyone that made your day happen. This doesn't have to come that day, but make sure that the folks who made your dream a reality know how wonderful it was. Your parents are having a really emotional day, so taking the time to pull them aside and share one-on-one how happy you are will be better than any gift.)

And a Word for the "Maids" from Lucky You
Girls, put the green eyed monster away! You're there to support your close friend and she'll need it! She asked you to stand up for her for a reason, so as your day will (or may have already) come to marry the man of your dreams, chances are she is there with a smile on her face. So let her enjoy the time leading up to the wedding as much as she does the big day and put aside your personal trials and tribulations, whatever they may be, and support your girl!

While designing a reception for a fabulous (and may I may stylish) bride of ours, she definitely got our excitement going when sending us this photo for inspiration. We couldn't think of a more perfect fit for Lucky You to put a spin on. While doing the design walk-through, we were all so mesmerized by the different direction, but knew we were onto something. I can tell you from our side, we can't wait for her big day to get here!!!

Another Lucky You adventure - an Indian Wedding

Cheers to the new Mr. and Mrs. Bast! Working with this fabulously organized and motivated bride was definitely a valuable (and fun!) learning experience for us here at Lucky You. The 18 hour wedding day consisted of a traditional Indian ceremony, with all the bells and whistles to be expected. A groom's processional with a drummer, a coconut ceremony, beautiful saris, and not to mention amazing food. The bride and groom changed into American wear, with Sheila in a stunning bridal gown and visited their Alma Maters for pictures around town. Closing out the night with a dance-party reception, every guest left feeling special being involved in this couple's special day. We know that this family-first couple has many, many great years ahead of them! Congratulations!

The Visionary Awards presented us with our biggest thrill yet...

So it's pretty obvious what our weakness here at Lucky You is...SHOES! We love them! We love dancing around in a great pair, strutting our stuff in the office. It's the fail safe way to put us in a good mood. When the great people of Grand Center asked us to design for the 2009 Visionary Awards sponsored by hometown favorite Brown Shoe, of course we jumped at the chance and said "yes, of course!" Never in a million years are we going to miss the chance to have so many great styles in one place, not to mention, giving something great to look at to the wonderful women of the arts of St. Louis!

We have the "go big or go home" mentality, so when it came to this endeavor, we did what we thought would be best for stage peices: A Shoe-quarium. Filling 5 foot vases with fabulous shoes, lights and water, then overflowing the top of them with amazingly tall flowers was right on the money!

Lucky You does more than weddings. We love flowers and we absolutely love shoes (like any girl does) so when we put the two together, we came up with a great composition of florals that really made this birthday girl's day. For her 50th birthday, she wanted something fun and fresh to celebrate with her girlfriends and Lucky You came a-runnin! It definitely turned out to be a beautiful day for a beautiful woman.

Hello fellow wedding lovers and otherwise romantics! The newest issue of Saint Louis Bride is out on stands now! We'd like to extend a big THANK YOU for involving Lucky You Productions once again in this issue. You can find us as the "quirky and unique" rehearsal dinner table scape (my title added). We like to think of ourselves as a modern and less traditional style of decorators, florists and wedding planners. When we were asked to do this, of course we jumped at it and said Yes! Really, who could turn down a "make your own taco" rehearsal dinner. Muy fun!
